Cindy Akana
A journey through Cindy's passions,
life story, and soulful music
Meet Cindy Akana
Career
With 40 years of ministry experience, Cindy served as the Director of Campus Ministry at Westminster College in Utah, worked as a Youth Director for churches in California and Washington, and spent several summers as a Camp Counselor and Coordinator for Westminster Woods. Her second career was in public education where she worked as a math tutor, volleyball coach, career specialist, and eventually as a high school CTE teacher for Highline Public Schools.
Education
Cindy enjoys open theological discussions about social justice and environmental issues. With a BA in Biblical Studies from Seattle Pacific University and an MA in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, Akana believes it is important to include reason and the historical contexts of ancient writings when engaged in theological conversations. Like many mainline reformed denominations, Cindy believes our view of God and our role as God's servants becomes more inclusive as we grow in our ability to love one another.
Hobbies
Cindy loves to be outdoors and has enjoyed many years of hiking, mountain biking, and sea kayaking. She also played years of competitive indoor volleyball, beach volleyball, and softball. These days, you can find her working in the yard when the weather is nice or doing house projects when it is wet and cold.
Music
Blending her love for songwriting and storytelling, Cindy creates songs that reflect both her challenging and victorious life journey. You can stream her songs on most music platforms and catch the music videos on her YouTube channel.
